Relationship, sex and health and development (RSHE) Education and Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development (SMSC) are school curriculum subjects in England which focuses on developing the knowledge, skills, and attributes to keep children and young people healthy and safe and to prepare them for life and work.
We understand the value of RSHE and SMSC in nurturing passionate and empathetic members of our academy, the locality, and the wider community. We believe RSHE is vital to the development of character, key skills and attributes and is crucial to a child’s academic successes and future life chances. With this in mind, we incorporate RSHE and SMSC into all aspects of academy life: assemblies and weekly Votes for Schools. At Ormiston Courtyard, we support children to be their ‘BEST’, nurturing their sense of Self-worth, Resilience, Excellence, and respect.
Inspiring children to explore ambition and challenge themselves is at the heart of all we do. Our primary aim is to ensure children are equipped to tackle the future challenges and relish in the achievements they will experience, as they develop through each stage of life. Our curriculum comprehensively covers all the content required by the DfE Statutory Relationships Education and Health Education Policy, the KS2 Citizenship Curriculum and the RSHE Programme of Study, which is detailed within the individual schemes of learning for each year group.
We believe that our bespoke RSHE education gives our pupils the knowledge, skills, and attributes that they need to be healthy and safe, and prepared for life in modern Britain. Our inclusive school fosters this ethos and encourages every child to pursue their dreams.
