Celebrating Curiosity During British Science Week (6–15 March)
We had a fantastic time celebrating British Science Week this year, embracing the theme “Curiosity: What’s Your Question?”. Throughout the week, our students immersed themselves in a range of hands-on challenges, engaging discussions, and even live interactions with real scientists.
One of the highlights was our spaghetti and marshmallow tower challenge, where teams competed to build the tallest structure. In a closely fought contest, a team of our girls demonstrated excellent teamwork and resilience to beat a group led by our maths (and physics specialist) teacher by just 2 cm, reaching an impressive height of 87 cm.
In lessons, students explored what makes a positive childhood, comparing experiences from the past with those of today. One student even interviewed members of staff, uncovering memories of landlines and life without TV remotes. Looking ahead, students also shared imaginative ideas for the future, from dinosaurs and unicorns to inventive solutions like a pill to stop you waking up tired.
We were also delighted to take part in a live Q&A session with scientists working on cutting-edge projects, including technology destined for Jupiter’s moons. Our students asked thoughtful and creative questions, making it a truly engaging and inspiring experience.
We rounded off the week with exciting demonstrations such as elephant’s toothpaste and smoke grenades, bringing science vividly to life and encouraging our students to keep asking questions about the world around them.
